What is Meltique Beef?
Meltique beef was developed by Hokubee Co., Ltd (Japan) back in 1984 and inspired by the traditional French culinary method “Pique” which introduces fats into red meat to enhance flavor and tenderness.
In Singapore, this 'artificial marbled beef' is being marketed and labeled under the brand Meltique.
Artificial = Fake Beef?
No, there are not fake beef. In fact, artificial marbling is a process of injecting animal fat and/or vegetable oil in order to stimulate the appearance of marbling and in the process, to improve the palatability of inexpensive cuts of meats.
Due to the appearance of the end-products which resembles Wagyu, some have taken advantage of this to pass off as a higher quality naturally marbled beef especially in a restaurant setting or where the labels are not visible.
In short, it's basically a fat injected beef.
Is it safe to eat?
Yes it is safe to eat and the products are readily available in Singapore by Hokubee Australia.
Does Meat Mekanik sell Meltique?
No we don't sell any of these products.
